Positive affirmations help to reframe your mind. During one’s childhood, the environment begins to impress upon them, creating what would be called the personality, or ego.
No matter the person, each individual goes through various forms of negativity in their lives. The younger you are or the more traumatic the negative experience, the more it feels as if that part of your life is ingrained in you. It creeps into every facet of your mind, creating neural connections where connections should not be.
Even myself, as a “naturally” positive being with a positive ego, I can see the negative thoughts in my mind — those split-second, momentary bits of energy that pop up seemingly out of nowhere. It takes work to see these. Many do not.
With positive affirmations, you can create new neural connections and begin to change the way that your mind works; your subconscious mind, where 95 to 99% of your thoughts reside. The area of the brain that has the ability to unconsciously manifest both your dreams and your nightmares.
Many are willing to go about life with these connections in the brain in tow, deciding “this is who I am, it’s who I’ve always been.” My compassion implores you to think in another way. Your past is not who you are. You are whoever you wish to be. Right now, in this very moment.
Let me ask you a question.
If you could, would you want to be able to look back on your past without negative feelings of a particular event that happened in your life?
I believe you answered yes, even if you didn’t. If you could look at past experiences and change the way you feel about them, your outlook on life would be drastically altered.
You would no longer carry around the metaphorical scars that send you trembling to your knees, you would no longer need to feel bad about something that happened in the past. You could move forward, think of the future, and live in the present.
The start of your new life, the new you, begins now. In this moment. You have already made progress simply by reading this far.
How Positive Affirmations Will Help You Move Away From the Past
Positive affirmations help by conditioning your subconscious into being a better version of yourself. The one you so long to be.
By repeating affirmations to yourself or by listening to affirmations in an audio format, over time you begin to shift into a more positive state of mind. You start to remove the barriers that block you from becoming what you truly wish to become.
You can think of it in the opposite sense as well: if you’re told something negative about yourself over and over, you begin to believe it. Whether it is coming from something external, such as another person, or internal, from your mind telling you so based off past experience.
But do not worry, as it won’t take as long as a lifetime to begin the process. In fact, it can happen very quickly. Just once, or preferably twice per day, listen to or repeat positive affirmations.
You will begin to feel the shift immediately.
Do this for a minimum of 21 days to get the most out of the experience. In the morning before you start your day, and at night before you go to bed. It is during these times when the brain is most receptive, able to leave high beta and enter more desired brainwave states.
Will This Be Enough to Change Who I Am and How I Think?
Positive affirmations are a tool. They are not going to be your savior, as only you can be your savior. However, they are a powerful tool that can help you begin your journey of change.
Do not underestimate the power of positive affirmations. Truly feel them, truly believe them, and they will be true.
And remember, you are not alone.
